New Hope Center's 2005 Walk/Run for life

WOOHOO..Well, it is with a great sense of accomplishment that I write this blog...Cooridinating my first big event at my new job went off without a hitch! There were a couple intense moments but overall it went REALLY well...It was overcast and a little chilly but I was told about 30 times that this was PERFECT run weather...Scott and I were out on the course in the dark of morning setting up the courses markers, then the registration, food, raffle, awards and just general event day chaos..And well..when the people started coming it was pretty surreal..Just cuz I have been in intense PLANNING mode and then to see it actually happen well it was nuts!!Scott was a great help..And since he was connected to the person planning the event he was lucky enough to get the coveted prize of shooting the gun off to start the race! And he a great job! I have attached some pictures that Scott took to give you a feeling of the day...Well just wanted to share. Thanks for all your prayers and support!Pre-Race Stretching" Above is a picture of some of the runners before the race... Cute little raffle winner!!" Above is a picture of the little boy who won our raffle for a bear!

some more of this and that

Hello friends, I know we have not blogged in a while but that is because we have been into the whole myspace thing..For those of you that don't know what myspace is...it is an entirley big waste of time but devilishly fun(we blame it all on morgan!)! But we will keep our blog updated no worries! Things here are plugging along...Although I have been feeling recently that I really miss the kc crew...we talk about when they might come visit us but alas not one friend has come to stay(Ian STOPPED by)...Well enough of my shameless plug for some visitors...The latest drama in our life is scott's car is NOT working...it just won't turn off...Isn't that bizarre...we will drive it and everything is fine and then we get home and the engine will just not turn off...very odd...so anywho we have to kind of work around each other's schedule(meaning i have to get up early and drive hime to work..which i DISDAIN..not driving him..just the getting up early part)but blah blah blah...at least we have one working car..THANK YOU MR. WILMER aka...DAD!!! One of the many AWESOME things you may have not realized about my dad is he is VERY GENEROUS AND loves his girls to drive BIG gas guzzling cars! But for our mountaineer we are very grateful! We got our wedding dvd this week which is another incentive for everyone to come visit cuz you'll never see it unless you come:) It is very surreal..The day went by so fast that you kind of don't fully realize everything going on..and everyone looks so good and happy and it is so cool.. the guy who did it did a very nice job of capturing the whole day.Hard to believe next week it will be 4 monthes!Well shout up a prayer for me as the New hope Center's walk/run is on Saturday..and we fear that with all the Katrina giving our center might be a little hard hit.but God is a provider! That's it for now...!

Guess what! We adopted a little baby kitten this weekend..Her name is Sadie(after the beatles song "sexy sadie" I know...dorky and cliched but we LOVE it)...we have been spending all our time just playing with Sadie and making her comfortable. She is already fitting in very well! She purrs and is affectionate and LOVES to play...she is so cute cuz she has no tail just a little "bob" as they call it... What a cutie! Scott doesn't start his work till Friday so he is getting to spend some quality time with her...She was afraid at first but only stayed under the bed for a couple of minutes...Since then she has been all smiles..playing and being very affectionate! well we shall keep you updated on our little cutie!Hopefully this will be the first adoption of many! free image hosting

video did NOT kill the Radio star

Guess what everyone? I am going to be on the radio...I wrote an ad for an event that is happening at my job at New Hope and they asked me to record a spot for it...So today I went to the radio station and they have doctored it all up with music and such...Now maybe this is an everyday thing for most people but I had never even been to a radio station before..The DJ said I was a natural..So I thought that was pretty awesome...The spot was for this 5k Run/Walkathon that I have been given the scary task of organizing for our center. The center is a faith based Pregnancy Center here in Northern Kentucky..It is called the Walk/Run for Life.. It is quite a daubting task given I am in charge of overseeing the whole thing..But it has been really fun so far.I LOVE my job! Praise God, I never thought I would say that!!!Things have been good here. We went to see one of our favorite bands, Coldplay, live at the Riverbend this tuesday..That was AWESOME..talk about a great live show! It was very dramatic with the lights and everything..It is a really cool ampitheater where the back of the stage literally runs up to the river...We splurged and bought seats and were relativley close to the stage..It was a really fun night.I am singing on a team at the house of prayer which has been really fun. i did this before Kansas City so it kind of came naturally. Scott has been bringing his sculpture stand to the house of prayer and working on his art while I am singing during worship..That has been really cool. Scott loves it because all the kids come and talk to him about what he is doing and he gets to share about scupture and Jesus his two favorite things! Well thought we'd just give a little update...If you are in the area perhaps you will hear this radio "personality" very soon..(the spot starts running tomoworow..till the 17th of September!)

Yard Sale Mania!

Today we went to the Longest Garage Sale in the world! It starts here in Covington KY and goes all the way down to Gadsden Alabama following Route 127. We found some really great stuff. The sun clock on the wall above me still keeps great time, but we only pluged it in an hour ago! I got three green jerseys and and a cool wooden mug for special guests to drink out of. Caroline is excited about an old hand bag she got to finally replace the ugly one she has had for too long! In the picture above, Caroline is standing at the start of "450 Miles of Fun and Excitement!"

A Life Remembered- Sammy Wilmer

About 17 years ago a litter of cats was born in the Wilmer house in New Jersey...We kept two of the cats, Sammy and Muffy. These cats were dressed up in our doll clothes, held like stuffed animal, and generally spoiled in a way that only my wonderful Mom can do!Muffy was my cat and she was the most amazing cat that ever lived!! She passed away when I was in college. And sadly, my sister's cat Sammy past away today after a sudden fight with cancer. Don't ever let anyone tell you that losing an animal is not a big deal...Animals grow to be a part of your family. This was a cat who all but ate at the kitchen table...(and if you ask my dad sometimes he did!!!) I want to just take a second to commemorate this wonderful cat..He was our loverboy as we liked to call him. I know he is probably sitting on some Saints lap right now as I am typing this:) .....purring loudley...We will miss you Sammy Katz.

Bono is cool

Salty dogma

Bono gives an explicit confession of being saved by Grace, not Karma | by Gene Edward Veith

Is Bono, the lead singer and songwriter for the rock group U2, a Christian? He says he is and writes about Christianity in his lyrics. Yet many people question whether Bono is "really" a Christian, due to his notoriously bad language, liberal politics, and rock star antics (though he has been faithfully married for 23 years). But in a new book of interviews, Bono in Conversation by Michka Assayas, Bono, though using some salty language, makes an explicit confession of faith.

The interviewer, Mr. Assayas, begins by asking Bono, Doesn't he think "appalling things" happen when people become religious? Bono counters, "It's a mind-blowing concept that the God who created the Universe might be looking for company, a real relationship with people, but the thing that keeps me on my knees is the difference between Grace and Karma."

The interviewer asks, What's that? "At the center of all religions is the idea of Karma. You know, what you put out comes back to you: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, or in physics—in physical laws—every action is met by an equal or an opposite one," explains Bono. "And yet, along comes this idea called Grace to upend all that. . . . Love interrupts, if you like, the consequences of your actions, which in my case is very good news indeed, because I've done a lot of stupid stuff."

The interviewer asks, Like what? "That's between me and God. But I'd be in big trouble if Karma was going to finally be my judge," says Bono. "It doesn't excuse my mistakes, but I'm holding out for Grace. I'm holding out that Jesus took my sins onto the Cross, because I know who I am, and I hope I don't have to depend on my own religiosity."

Then the interviewer marvels, "The Son of God who takes away the sins of the world. I wish I could believe in that."

"The point of the death of Christ is that Christ took on the sins of the world, so that what we put out did not come back to us, and that our sinful nature does not reap the obvious death," replies Bono. "It's not our own good works that get us through the gates of Heaven."

The interviewer marvels some more: "That's a great idea, no denying it. Such great hope is wonderful, even though it's close to lunacy, in my view. Christ has His rank among the world's great thinkers. But Son of God, isn't that farfetched?"

Bono comes back, "Look, the secular response to the Christ story always goes like this: He was a great prophet, obviously a very interesting guy, had a lot to say along the lines of other great prophets, be they Elijah, Muhammad, Buddha, or Confucius. But actually Christ doesn't allow you that. He doesn't let you off that hook. Christ says, No. I'm not saying I'm a teacher, don't call me teacher. I'm not saying I'm a prophet. I'm saying: 'I'm the Messiah.' I'm saying: 'I am God incarnate.' . . . So what you're left with is either Christ was who He said He was—the Messiah—or a complete nutcase. . . . The idea that the entire course of civilization for over half of the globe could have its fate changed and turned upside-down by a nutcase, for me that's farfetched."

What is most interesting in this exchange is the reaction of the interviewer, to whom Bono is, in effect, witnessing. This hip rock journalist starts by scorning what he thinks is Christianity. But it is as if he had never heard of grace, the atonement, the deity of Christ, the gospel. And he probably hadn't. But when he hears what Christianity is actually all about, he is amazed.
