I had my first public sculpture display this weekend at a Cincinnati House of Prayer (CHOP) conference with Gary Wiens. On Thursday morning I set it up. Caroline found white specks on the front of the sculpture’s jacket. It had only been up for 20 minuets and I did not know what was going on. Then I thought it might be the light I had shinning on it, curing the fresh plaster. I had not let the plaster dry enough before I painted it…whops! So I brought it back out to the car and touched it up, and displayed it without a light. At the end of the night it had some more white dots showing, so I brought it home and cleaned it up the next morning, and it did fine today. Overall the piece had a great response.
My experience was that I felt nervous when people were looking at it and reading the description. I did not know how people would respond to it I guess. I saw some people touch it and taping it. I would feel more comfortable with the touching if it was a bronze, (hopefully someday it will be cast), but it is a plaster reproduction from a mold that I made.
Expectation Met,
7/05,
Plaster reproduction,
This sculpture is the manifestation of a prophetic word that my wife Caroline and I received during our pre-marital counseling. The word that we received was a picture. The picture is of a man standing before an ocean with a cup in his hand asking Jesus to fill his cup. What the man does not realize is that where he is standing is before a vast ocean, which is actually what the Lord wants to give him. Our counselor spoke over our marriage with this picture saying that God wants to give us more then we realize. The way I interpreted this word was that Jesus will meet this mans level of expectation by filling his cup, but Jesus actually wants to give him so much more. Jesus wants to give him the ocean, yet this is something he cannot contain!
While earthing this word at CHOP, two weeks ago I heard Jesus say to me that this man is also the church of Cincinnati and He wants to be his friend. Jesus has more for the church of Cincinnati then she thinks she deserves! There is a deeper revelation of love called intimacy or friendship. Jesus wants to release this love and it’s like the size of an ocean when compared to a cup. We the church, will receive that ocean only through asking…
